Why Leadership Matters

Leadership matters because it gives us a sense of purpose: everyone has a unique purpose in life. We cannot fulfill our purpose by always following others; authentic leadership helps us find our true north and fulfill our purpose.

Leadership matters because it links us to our passions: Knowing our purpose is not enough. We cannot truly lead if we don't love what we do. By developing our leadership skills, we can link our purpose to our passions and serve others. When people in organizations link the organization's vision to their passion, they soar to excellence. Authentic leadership helps us create that link.

Leadership matters because people matter: The world is changing so fast that we cannot do everything alone. We need people onboard. However, we cannot push people to always do what we want; the time of forceful management is gone. We need to work with people and for people toward a shared vision if we want guarantee success. We can only lead on purpose and inspire people to join us along the way.

Why I Wrote This Book

This is a question that many people have asked me especially when they know that my background is in engineering and project management.

Actually, I didn't write this book because of my extensive leadership or management experience. No, I am not a guru, a celebrity, or a corporate executive. I am an ordinary person who loves his fellow human beings and cares about their well-being no matter who they are, what they do, or where they live.

In the past 20 years, I have noticed that many executives and managers treat their employees as a means of making profit for the business without investing in them. Intentionally or unintentionally, they treat people as machines that should work hard without regular maintenance. In other words, such organizations value people on paper and not in practice.

When people in an organization are not valued, trusted, respected, and empowered, they do not value, trust, respect, and follow their leaders in return. Nor do they fulfill the values and achieve the vision of the organization. Fear, doubt, stress, negativity, anger, and hatred start to dominate, while positivity, productivity, profit and prosperity decline. As a result, the organization will fail sooner or later. This hurts not only the people in the organization but also the business as well as the economy.

I wrote this book to remind all of us that people need to be valued; their voices need to be heard; and their potential needs to be developed.

People need to be encouraged and empowered to take action toward success for themselves and for their organizations and for those around them. This way they will be inspired to imbibe the culture of authentic leadership and become authentic leaders as well.

It's important to say, too, that "organization" can be a company, a corporation, an association, a group, or even a family. It doesn't have to be about business; it's about people working together. It's not the formal structure that counts.

In sum, I wrote this book to convey a profound message to you, and that message is that by linking purpose, passion, and people together we can achieve productivity, profit and prosperity - and by that I mean prosperity in its broadest form, which is richness in our lives. Together we can raise the consciousness of humanity and manifest a new world full of peace, love, and light.

This book reminds you that people need to be valued; their voices need to be heard; and their potential needs to be developed. This way they will be inspired to imbibe the culture of authentic leadership, become united, and make impossible possible.

Tim Connor, CSP

Best selling author, speaker, and trainer

"I have read every book on leadership that has ever been published. As a best selling author, I tend to be somewhat critical of others who write about those subjects that are dear to my heart and I have written about myself. Kamran’s book, Leadership Soup, is one of the best I have ever read. He covers this often complicated topic in an engaging and digestible style. He hits the bull’s eye when it comes to helping leaders understand and master this vital mindset."

Why This Book Is Called Leadership "Soup"

Here are my main two reasons:

Reason #1: In the same way that we eat soup when we catch cold, because we want to feel better and regain our power and health, Leadership Soup provides a formula for those who want to become more effective leaders by living on purpose and leading on purpose.

Reason #2: Leadership Soup is also an acronym for the framework that I developed. LEADERSHIP is an acronym for the soup ingredients and SOUP is the outcome. By using the ingredients of the Leadership Soup, an authentic leader is guaranteed Success, Outstanding performance, Unity, and Productivity. You will learn the whole formula in Chapter 1.

Leadership Soup helps you lead with your heart and soar to greatness with inspired people in your organization, no matter how big or small your organization is, or where you are on your journey of authentic leadership. Once you begin applying the Leadership Soup formula, you will soon notice the difference. People will want to know more about you and your leadership skills; they will be drawn to you. They will like to be around you, listen to you, and follow what you do and what you suggest. Why? Because they have tasted your Leadership Soup that has strong people factors in it. Once you taste Leadership Soup, you know how satisfying it is.
