Contract Risk Allocation Baseline


This module provides an overview of the probable distribution of risks by type of contract, so that entitlement can be assessed when unforeseen events occur.

✅  Understand the risk of claims arising under various contract types

✅  Relate unforeseen events to risk assumption and entitlement to recovery

✅  Begin to narrate cause/effect and responsibility/entitlement when unforeseen events arise



Change Identification


This module presents a process for continuously evaluating scope and execution conditions against the baselines in order to identify change, maintain a change management system, and determine entitlement.

✅  Identify change under a broad range of contract scenarios

✅  Understand and comply with notice requirements

✅  Consider whether to pursue a change order based on factors including impact, entitlement, amount, customer relationship, and business strategy



Change Impact Assessment


This module covers defining the scope of a change and assessing impacts to changed and unchanged work.

✅  Assess the impact of technical (scope, requirements) changes

✅  Assess the impact of performance condition changes

✅  Consider performance condition changes caused by technical changes

✅  Dimension the full impact to consider in change order requests



Change Documentation


This module reviews creating and maintaining contemporaneous documentation to support entitlement and quantification of changes.

✅  Understand the documentation likely needed to support various CORs

✅  Relate project roles to documentation responsibilities

✅  Review issue files for completeness

✅  Fill gaps in information with the best available data



Change Order Preparation & Review


This module covers the preparation, pricing, and review of change order requests.

✅  Formulate a systematic contract change review process

✅  Present direct costs and indirect costs

✅  Discuss costs related to time extensions v. those that are not

✅  Consider requests for relief of contract conditions in a COR



Change Order Negotiation


This module provides guidance on facilitating an agreement on cost and time adjustment based on an accepted contractual process.

✅  Understand factors that affect a negotiation and the stages of negotiation

✅  Understand the goals of a negotiation for all parties

✅  Structure documentation to support negotiations

✅  Provide live negotiation support for your team



Reservation of Rights & Cumulative Impacts


This module presents guidance on managing changes that cannot be contemporaneously resolved.

Case Study & Case Study Resolution


This module presents a contract scenario that includes a significant change. You are asked to apply the concepts presented in the course to select the best answer for a set of challenge questions based on the case study.

✅  Test application of the concepts in a challenging scenario in which the positions of two opposing parties each have merit

✅  Consider how you would handle a complex change management scenario in real time

✅  Calculate several elements of a change order request

✅  Be prepared to present a position and understand the counter-party’s position
